The Plan

Hello Internet.

My name is Erin.

I am 30 years old. A wife, mother of two, Air Force veteran, and unemployed nurse. I have an insatiable sweet tooth and uncanny ability to win baby shower games.
I am skilled in procrastinating, napping, and eating. I enjoy football, writing lists, and have a strong dislike for making phone calls and confrontation (except when provoked).

Now that you know me, I have a confession to make.

I think I might be just a little crazy.

You see, we are approaching another deployment soon and I have a plan.

A plan that involves me, the kids, our minivan, and many, many miles. Every time I mention this plan to someone, an odd look comes over them and I get the distinct impression that they find me to be a little... insane? unstable? off my rocker? You get the idea.

And so I want to know what you think. Crazy?...

Or ambitious?

I am a self confessed crazy, but that map looks insane.

I think it's doable... maybe. What's your time line? Are you traveling alone?

Remember you have to drive back. Sometimes road trips are fun - the zoos, pit stops, scenic, family memories of all the fighting...

Man. I love that you're embracing such bold plans! Thata girl!

Well the plan is to drive from here to Wichita Falls, TX and stay there for a couple of weeks visiting friends.
Then I would head north for the holidays.
I'm thinking that we will stay put in MI until Josh gets home & comes to meet us. That way we can all drive back together.
And yes to the traveling alone, unless you count the 4 & 2 year olds as company ;)
Jen, the plan is totally inspired by you. It's such a McD move.

YIPPEEE!!!!!! I LOVE seeing the destination WICHITA FALLS!!! :):) Although it pains me GREATLY that you are doing this as the sole adult in the car with two kiddos. Thank the Lord for DVD players. But wow. We hope that you won't be sorely disappointed with our lack of exciting things here. But we're EXCITED!!!! :):):)

I think you are a little of both, insane and very ambitious!! I know that there is not a stopping point in OKC, but you do go through OKC to get to your next destination! If you needed to stop in for a potty break or if you needed to stay the night, I would LOVE to see you and you kiddos! You are always welcomed to stay with us or just stop in!! When are you planning on leaving for this adventure?

NOOOO!!! I object! Not sure what the timeline for your departure is BUT if you are coming Thanksgiving-ish timeframe, then the Fishers will be here too. SOOOOO you should change your route to add more miles and more QUALITY family time with your kids by heading to PHOENIX! Or you should drive back to ID via Phoenix (because that would really make a lot of sense...)

By the way, I soooooo would do what you're doing too. I actually enjoy road trips with my kids. They are strapped in and can't get out. They sing, ask lots of questions, watch DVDs, and take naps. And if they cry, who cares!! No one can hear them but YOU!! :)

Please... come to AZ?

By the way, didn't Josh JUST get back from a deployment? I think it's too early for him to go again...

gulp!! Ok, sounds doable but I'm worried about the weather. I can tell you our pit stops, but please remember I had help = Ashley help. That's better than husband help!

Jennifer,
I would love to come see you guys too! It was on my previous plan. But as you pointed out, it is too soon for Josh to be deploying again, and so they have the priveledge of a shorter time away. That means my road trip can't be quite as long anymore.
Why do you have to be so far south??!
Next time for sure :)

I think it's doable. It may be crazy, but your kids will be strapped in and unable to do more than whine and scream ;) Plus, you'll have your own car everywhere. Buy a lot of new movies and a lot of new toys for each day on the drive.

Since you are planning on being a little hairbrained anyway, why don't you swing your route a little (yes, that's a relative term) to the south and stay in Cali for a week or so and play with us for a while too? You guys can do Disney with us and our "play parks" and other such adventures :)

OMG....!! The next post should be a rallying cry for all feature length kid films and a plastic liner for the inside of your car.
You can do it!

After a little 3 hour road trip with my two this weekend I say you are CRAZY!!! :) Buy some plane tickets and your family can find a way for you to have a car to use when you need it. We love you :)

Not crazy at all. You go, girl! I think I may have just hit 12,000 miles with the kiddos this deployment! Seriously, you'll get a rhythm...and so will they!

I think it sounds like a great idea!!! We'll have to get together while you're here. Keep us posted on your decision!
