Rocket Ship to Heaven

Alex & I read her "Jesus Book" tonight before bed. When we got to the part about going to heaven, she said "We go up way high in the sky. How do we get there? A rocket ship maybe?" Such a smart girl! When I said no, it would be a miracle, she told me that there was a miracle at the playground. She thought I said merry-go-round. :)

Family

They really love each other-- Alex is so sweet to her brother and Derek loves to watch his big sister play Derek gets so excited when Daddy comes home from work. I think he senses that he's alone with girls all day.

My Big Little Kids

I snapped a couple of pictures of Alex while she was coloring, and I couldn't believe how old she looked in them. My baby is getting so big!

And my sweet boy is getting older too...his 6 month birthday is on Friday, and so we've widened his eating choices (previously consisting of right or left) with some rice cereal.

A Mommy Moment

Since having children, I realized that I have had many "mommy moments"-- something I said/did/thought that seemed reasonable at the time, however is actually insane. For your enjoyment, I will share such a moment with you.
Mommy Moment, Episode 1
In this episode, Erin hopes that her breath smells like poop.
The episode starts at 0530 this morning, when Derek was eating the early-bird special and decided to poop as well. This isn't my favorite thing because then I have to turn on lights and wake both of us up more than we have to be to do the changing. But it has to be done, so... fast forward to 0800 when he wakes up for the day. Yuck, smells like poop in his room. So I change him again. Then I feed him, and he poops again. Come on kid, can't you get it all out at one time? Then I get in the shower. Alex is watching her morning show and Derek is sitting in the bathroom in his bouncy seat. I get out of the shower and I swear I smell more poop. This is when the mommy moment happens. I think to myself, maybe he didn't really poop again, I haven't brushed my teeth yet maybe it's just my breath.
There you have it-- I wished that my breath smelled like poop. Insane, isn't it?
By the way, it wasn't my breath.

We're Free!

The temperature has finally warmed up to where we can bundle up and get out of the house!

We took a couple of walks this weekend-- Derek was our chubby little bunny. He really liked getting a ride from Daddy.

He fell asleep each time...

Alex's turn

Since Derek was getting all the video clips on the blog I had to try to make things even. So here is Alex with some random conversation.

Alex is into pretending these days. Every day she tells us which character she is for that day, and the rest of us too. This week she has been Tyrone, Mommy is Pablo, Daddy is Austin, and poor Derek has to be Tasha. (These are all Backyardigans) She's very serious about her character and wont answer to Alex. She'll ask when Austin is coming back from work and tell me to change Tasha's pants. It's funny!

We're Rollin' Now

Guess who rolled over yesterday?? Yes, the chunky monkey has a new talent to show off. I was kind of concerned that I'd have to go to his 6 month checkup and report no progress since I thought he was just too fat to learn to roll. But it turns out that his head is so big and heavy that his body just follows it over. Now I just have to figure out the answer to the other puzzzling questions they ask at the well baby checkups-- for instance, how am I supposed to know if he would "regard an object the size of a raisin"? I mean have you seen the size of this kid? If I put one in front of him, he would probably eat it!
I digress...I'll put up a video clip soon of this latest accomplishment. For the hour after Derek first rolled over, Alex showed us many times how she can roll over too! What a talented family we have :)
