Muffy

I don't want anyone to think I'm a canine-hater, after my post about why I don't want a dog.
So now I will thrill you with this true story of how Josh and I saved a dog from certain death.

We were driving on a windy country road on a summer day in Michigan.
Ahead of us in the road we saw a small animal, and so we slowed down.
As we approached we saw that it was a dog, and that it seemed to be dragging itself across the pavement.

It was obvious that the dog had been hit by some vehicle and left behind in the road.
She wasn't using her back legs at all.

Josh got out of the truck to see what we could do. He picked the little dog up and placed her in the back of our truck, and let her drink from his water bottle.
I didn't get out, I didn't want to see a mangled dog.

We weren't sure what to do. The dog had a collar but no identifying tags on it.
There were a couple of long driveways leading to houses that were far back off the road, so we took one of them and hoped that someone nearby would recognize the poor thing.

There was a teenage boy outside of the house as we approached. We got out and explained cautiously what had happened. We were worried that the dog belonged to the boy and we didn't want to scare him.

He came over to the side of the truck and peeked in the back.
"Ah, Muffy," he said.

"Is she yours?"

"Nope, she's our neighbor's dog.
Someone brings her up here every week or so.
Her back legs haven't worked in years, but she keeps crawling on down to the road."

Suckers.

That's what we are.

That dog owes us a water bottle.

Come on Erin, if I were going to make up a story I could come up with something better than that.
Totally true.

Ah, Muffy. Seems like the poor dog was trying to end her pain in the road with a fast moving car and people kept "saving" her.

Wait a sec... This is made up. You let Josh pick up a mangled dog then get back in a touch the steering wheel?

Well she wasn't bleeding, which I did think was odd at the time. But it makes perfect sense now.

And where's the trust people?!e

My love: It was "Ah, Muppet". And you forgot the part about how the dog's hair aft of her waist was covered in poop...which made us believe the contents of the colon were pushed out when she was run over. Another reason why we will never own a dog. I miss you.
