Things I am thinking about

- I haven't had much to blog about the past few days. I haven't passed any more animals gettin' it on in the middle of the street, and I haven't attempted to make any pancakes lately either.

- Alex was a bit of an overachiever yesterday at wiping her bottom, of which the end result was an overflowing toilet.
While I was cooking dinner, and Josh was at work, and the kids were bickering.
It was not my finest hour.

- The upside? I finally got around to mopping the bathroom floor.

- Also, I was suddenly (and necessarily) motivated to launder the bath mat.

- Alex earned a new patch for Awanas last week, and I was excited to see that it was an iron-on. I was feeling a little haughty about my success, until the patch came home in her vest pocket tonight.
Domesticity, why do you hate me so?
How did I mess up an iron on patch?

- Every time I sit down to make a list of meals for the week, I feel like a total failure. Why can I never think of anything?
What do you cook? Please, for the love of my self esteem, tell me what you are eating.

- That reminds me that I'm hungry.

- And I'm sulking because I have an unfortunate appointment scheduled for tomorrow. You know, the annual womanly type appointment.
I use the term "annually" very loosely, as I have not been to that appointment in three years.

-The upside? Motivation to shave my legs.

-The downside? Well, there's really no need to go into all that, now is there.
I'm sure you all know.

-And if you don't know, then you should be out toiling in the fields, because that's your curse.

I think I shall now go drown my sorrow in Halloween Candy. And while I chew on some laffy taffy, I'll ponder what is worse: gynecologist or dentist?

Lately I've seen more of my dentist so he gets my vote for what's worse.

I will send a few recipes your way...do you ever use a crockpot? I am generally more motivated to cook early in the day and its nice to know dinner is mostly made. Plus the house smells good and everyone thinks you've gone to a lot of trouble.

Yes! I love to use the crockpot. I just feel like I only have a couple of recipes for it that I use over and over.
Thanks!!

Don't ask what we're eating. It would be a lot Chick and Fil-A. If you get some good crockpot recipes, pass them along.
And here is a bonus...at least the bathroom incident happened before you cleaned (I know, because of said incident), because around here I will finally get around to cleaning a particular area/floor and then someone immediately spills a gallon of milk, pukes on it, or "accidentally" throws a turd down on the floor. Lovely.
My legs beat your legs, I'm sure. It's like I'm getting ready for winter or something.
You are a lucky duck if your kids got candy you can mooch. Mine didn't get much and none of it was the really good stuff!
I hope your night is a good one, and your day is over with quickly tomorrow!

You're funny!

Dinners? I like to start with my meat (haha). I pick out let's say chicken. Then I go from there. Bake it, grill it, boil and shred it, add it to pasta, dice it with rice, pan fry strips for fajitas???

I also think about time, fajitas are fast, spaghetti, fish, shrimp... All can be done in 15 minutes

I do love the crockpot too!! You can sign up on all recipes.com and they will email you a different crockpot recipe 3-5 times a week

Have a good day today! 3 years? Nurse!!!

If Joyce sends you a recipe for Teriyaki Chicken and Baked Rice, make them-yummy.

Chicken Piccata:
Take a pound of chicken tenderloins.
Coat with breadcrumbs, garlic salt and pepper.
Add some olive oil and butter to skillter and cook the breaded chicken.
Remove chicken and keep warm.
To the skillet add a little more olive oil and butter.
Add about 1/3 cup of chicken broth and the juice of a lemon.
Cook on high and scrape up all the bits, turning it into a glaze.

Spread chicken tenders on cooked, white rice. Pour glaze over chicken.

Taco Soup
Brown 1 lb ground beef (I sometimes sub chicken)

In a crockpot-
Add cooked beef (or raw chicken)
1 can diced tomatoes
1 can tom sauce
1 can corn
1 can pinto beans
1 can kidney beans

Do not drain cans, add the liquid with them.

The original recipe says to add diced grn chiles and olives, I do not.

Add 1 packet of taco seasoning, stir, and cook on low for like 6-8 hours or high for 3-4. If using raw chicken, I go for a bit longer of a cooking time.
Serve soup with Fritos, sour cream, shredded cheese.

Holla!

I you ever get those patches to stay via iron-on let me know, mine came home in pockets too until I just sewed them on.

I thought you had a bunch of colorfuel recipes? Are you getting bored of those?

I picked up a cookbook from Costco: Cooking Light's Fresh Food Fast Weeknight Meals. Lots of yummy stuff in there. And, because it is mostly fresh food, not too much dairy of cream of that in the recipes. Just leave off that sprinkling of parm at the end.

I don't mind the dentist. No cavities. And since I keep having kids, I haven't been "due" for one of those appointments in a long time.

I'm sure that you need one more note about meals.

I'm so sure of it, that I'm sending you just one more note.

I HATE meal planning. Last night I learned that John Z. has to do a week of meal planning as part of earning his nutrition badge for Cub Scouts. Sweet.

A couple years back we themed our days. That makes meal planning easier for us.

Mucho Mexican Monday
Too much Pasta Tuesday
What's in the Freezer Wednesday
Takin' a Trip Thursday (ethnic)
Frozen Pizza Friday
Southern Sunrise Saturday (bfast food)
Surprise Sunday (evenings: Sandwich Sunday)

We're not hard core about it, but it sure does make the blank page less overwhelming... and the kids love it. Sometimes we get wild and decorate for the themed meal. Yeah, I know, wild!

Sooooo... whatcha havin' for dinner?

I like to make chili in the crockpot. Last time I didn't really use a recipe; just threw it all together. And it was pretty good! :)
I used ground beef, an onion, a can of kidney beans, a can of navy (maybe? I'm not sure!) beans, a bag of frozen corn, a can of tomato paste, I think a can of tomato sauce, some cumin, and chili powder. Probably some salt. I think that's all.
