Day 50

Who says you can't play board games with your kids when you're in Afghanistan?

You just need someone to move your turtle for you and you're all set.

I heart Skype.

In other news, we are at Day 50 and so far the minivan has broken and the next victim was the dryer.
The other night I went to check on a load and realized that while it was tumbling, it was not heating.

So I thought I'd try to fix it.

Raise your hand if you think I'm in over my head.

How about now?

Any doubt remaining?

You can put your hands down now.

I'll let you know how things pan out.
I ordered some parts online, and I'm waiting to receive them.

In the meantime, we're just wearing the same underwear over and over so as not to accumulate a lot of laundry. Those undies just take up so much space, you know.

You are very brave! Mike took apart our washer a couple of years ago and I thought I was going to croak! He managed to put it back again. :) Skype is great!

Such a sweet picture! Glad they can still play with Daddy. As far as the dryer goes, You go girl! My Dad says that dryers are almost always easy to fix because there is only so much that can go wrong. You are such a domestic goddess for even trying to fix it!

Awww, that picture got me all teary-eyed! And wow, lady... I've tackled many things that inevitably go wrong when hubs is gone, but major appliance repair? Nope! That's usually when I throw up the white flag and start batting my eyelashes at the men I know who are so much more mechanically inclined than I am, and have them come fix it for me! Hope it all works out for you!

You are my baby girl and I am a bit concerned. I see a volt meter, screw drivers, measuring tape, some circuit board and loose wires where are you heading with this?
Bet you did some internet surfing to get to this point/

Love you
Dad

I was laughing through your whole post that I could have written this one!! (Then I had to just go check and make sure I wasn't saying that on the one where you admitted to streaking in college ;) The DAY Matthew left for a deployment Callie smashed her hand in the sliding door of the van and had to stand there screaming til I got around to open the door, not pretty! My dryer broke and I worked on it until I literally screamed in frustration (true story, can you believe it:), my van randomly shut down on the highway...and I spent one Sunday afternoon about halfway through a 7 mo deployment sitting in the kitchen with my eyes closed, smile on my face, as I listened to Emma and Daddy "playing a game" via Skype and realized how normal everything felt for that second! You'll make it through. You are doing awesome!!

lol, our dryer is broken too right now. We ordered our part express but they didn't send it express. So, I was at the laundromat the night before we left doing all of the last minute stuff. Ugg. Doing a family of 6's laundry and air-drying is not working out too well, but at least a couple of stops along the way have laundry. Good luck!
